It is the last day of the school holidays here... I am still without a car and have no Canadian license. Our stuff hasn't arrived.. Tomorrow tho... Matt is taking the day off and we are delivering the boys to school, complete with a sack full of stationary (Owen needs 20 sharpened pencils and there are probably 20 kids in his class... What are they going to do with that many pencils?). Once they are settled we will drive over to Sackville (sounds inviting huh!) and I will sit my written drivers license. Learners in hand we will then drive over to pick up the car we have bought, a long and tedious process due to the market we are in (the low one - who wants to spend too much on a car for one year? and you can't really resell east coast cars on the west coast coz of the rust!). I will then undertake my inaugural drive on the wrong side of the road to get the thing back to our house in time for the movers to arrive with our gear! Hurray! Christmas! We will probably just get finished with them in time to go pick up the boys from school.... Anyhoo! That is tomorrow...
We have spent the last week or so trying to enjoy the warm weather. It is VERY humid, and the kids wilt if we spend too long outside.... We get out for a walk every day - be it a blueberry hunt (they grow wild in these parts) or a squirrel spotting mission. There are a few bush walks in the neighbourhood which is great. The kids even puddled in a stream one day :)
Last weekend we branched out and drove up to Truro (looking for cars). They had their Exhibition (A&P show) on, so we went in for a look. We were treated to sheep riding, pig chasing, calf wrestling, steer riding good fun :) We watched some awesome tug of wars (there is a real technique to tug of war as I have discovered) and saw some beautiful animals - gorgeous big black horses (I don't think they were clydesdales...looked bigger!) Had kettle popcorn and came home dusty and tired :)

Today we walked down to the harbour, a bit of a hike and we had to scuttle over a railway line (everyone does it apparently), but well worth it. The kids loved watching the locals fishing for mackerel and had an even better time digging holes and making sandcastles at the beach volleyball court. I dragged them away when some girls turned up to play :)

The kids seem fine about school starting. Alex registered mostly excited with a little nervous when I asked him today. Owen is just stoked to be wearing his NEW MINIONS TSHIRT!!!!!! He will be easy to spot in the playground in psychedelic yellow anyway... I'm sending them off in jandals (all they have till tomorrow) so it will be interesting to see how that goes! Bare feet not a big thing round here....Stuff we have noticed..
The drivers are so courteous! If I'm spotted even looking like I'm thinking about crossing the road (as a pedestrian) cars both ways stop for me. A bit embarrassing, but I'm getting used to it already!
The bloody lightswitches are upside down. Am spending a lot of time turning off lights I want on and turning on ones I don't!
I hate the cheese.... and the butter....
Everything is big! Our dishwashing liquid is a 5ltr bottle :)
Still no raccoons...
